Our Story

Where Heritage Meets Hops and Imagination

Before 1998, the dream was just fermenting.

In October 1998, our brewery launched at the Norwich Beer Festival — the same year Michael Green was born.

By 2002, we moved to our permanent home in Seething, built on the historic site of the 448th Bomb Group.

Though brewing paused in 2007, Michael’s passion never did.

After an 11-year hiatus, in 2018, he convinced his father, Allan, to teach him the craft.

Lockdown in 2020 reshaped everything — takeaway beers, home deliveries, and bold new recipes featuring bread, chillies, and coffee.

By 2022, word of mouth carried us to new customers and our beloved Monthly Specials were born.

In 2023, we became the first independent UK brewery to export beer into Europe post-Brexit, we also sent our beers to London for the first time.

Then in 2024, distribution through McCarthy’s helped us reach Cambridge and North Norfolk, with next-day delivery possible for the first time.

Adventures in Brewing

We’ve produced Keg-Conditioned Beer, Champagne Beer, and even distributed our brews in Italy.

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do — we’ve partnered with Chat Valley Vineyard, Harris & James Coffee, Pennybun Bakery, and Halesworth Town Council, as well as several Belgian breweries.

We also grow our own hops on site, using spent hops to enrich the soil — sustainability brewed in from the ground up. Our annual Hedgerow Green Hop Beer celebrates this cycle of renewal.

Each year, we travel to learn from global masters of brewing — from Belgium to Spain, where Michael scaled a mountain and found inspiration for “Saldra Bien”, our Spanish-style cerveza meaning “It will all go smoothly.”

Our Craft

Every brew begins with patience, skill, and imagination — the hallmarks of true craftsmanship. From hand-selecting malt to carefully conditioning each keg, our focus is on quality over quantity.

We experiment fearlessly while honouring time-tested traditions, ensuring that every pour tells a story of heritage, craft, and care.

Sustainability

Craft and conscience go hand in hand.

Over 500 trees surround our brewery; their fruit enhances many of our beers.

We use locally grown Maris Otter barley and East Anglian malts.

Our self-carbonated keg beers capture natural COâ‚‚ from fermentation — better for the planet, better for flavour.

Reusable stainless-steel casks replace single-use packaging for thousands of life cycles.
